The Media and the Indian Government

The relationship between the media and the government of India has been tumultuous. While the media helped inform citizens during the time of British colonial rule, helping unite Indians as they fought against British imperialism, it was brought to a standstill during the time of Emergency in 1975 when there was press censorship. Since then the media has been gaining increasing influence amongst the masses and played a critical role in the Lok Sabha elections in 2014.
